There’s a big difference between someone who is there simply to sell you something and someone who is there to help you make the right decision.
Many companies train salespeople just enough to sell a product. Some have never installed the products they’re selling or even picked up a tool. A true consultant takes a different approach: inspect first, educate the homeowner, explain the options, and then recommend what actually makes sense.
Be Careful After a Storm
This is especially important with roofing and insurance claims.
After a major storm, neighborhoods can quickly become flooded with commission-driven salespeople telling homeowners to file insurance claims. But just because a storm came through your neighborhood doesn’t automatically mean you have legitimate storm damage.
A proper inspection should come first.
A knowledgeable roofing professional should inspect the entire roofing system, document what they find, explain whether there appears to be legitimate storm-related damage, and walk you through your options before recommending that you file a claim.
You shouldn’t file an insurance claim simply because someone wants another contract.
Retail Remodeling Is No Different
The same principle applies when you’re paying out of pocket for roofing, bathrooms, gutters, or other home improvements.
A salesperson’s goal shouldn’t be to push you toward the most expensive option.
A true consultant should understand the products and installation process, inspect what you currently have, explain your options, and consider your budget, lifestyle, goals, and how long you plan to stay in the home.
Sometimes a premium system makes sense. Sometimes a more economical option is the better choice. Sometimes you may not need to replace something at all.
What Should a True Consultant Do?
A good consultant should be able to explain why they’re recommending something, show you what they found, discuss different options, and answer your questions without unnecessary pressure.
Ask questions:
• Why are you recommending this?
• Are there other options?
• What did you find during the inspection?
• Is there a less expensive solution that would still accomplish what I need?
A knowledgeable professional should welcome those questions.
At Forever Fortified, we believe the best sale isn’t always the biggest sale. It’s finding the solution that actually makes sense for the homeowner.
Our approach is simple: properly inspect, educate, explain your options, and help you make an informed decision based on your home, budget, and lifestyle.
Whether you choose to work with us or someone else, look for someone who is willing to educate you before asking you to sign a contract.
Don’t just find someone who can sell you something. Find someone who understands what they’re selling and why it makes sense for you.
